Five O'Clock Somewhere

Welcome to Five O'Clock Somewhere, where it doesn't matter what time zone you're in; it's five o'clock somewhere. We'll look at rural life, especially as it happens in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, cats, sailing (particularly Etchells racing yachts), and bits of grammar and Victorian poetry.

My favorite commercial

This was a Super Bowl commercial a couple of years ago. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best Super Bowl commercial ever, although when I went to a website last year that claimed to have the "top ten" commercials, this one wasn't among them.

If you know cats, you will understand.

The herding cats is a great commercial. And legendary. If I'm not mistaken, it involves a dot com company that no longer exists. I enjoy the GEICO commercial that insults cavemen - some of who are around and get very offended.

Actually, EDS is still around. It predated the dot-com boom by a couple of decades (it was the consulting company that succeeded in getting its personnel out of Iran in 1980, when Jimmy Carter failed at rescuing the embassy personnel), and it survived when everyone else went bust, although it never again did Super Bowl commercials.

Was Ross Perot involved with starting and running EDS at one time?

Yes, Pat, EDS was Perot's company. You're the one who told me that!
